Co-founding the Montréal Signs Project in 2010 was an accident, like much else in my life. A decade later, having won over the skeptics, we’ve assembled a substantial collection of commercial and civic signs from around my adopted city. The signs continually intrigue and delight students, faculty, staff and alums. One vital lesson for me, to quote an interviewee in my recent documentary The Signmakers of Montreal, is that “neon wants to be on”.
