David S. Hill – Director and the Founder of the Neon Muzeum, Warsaw
British/Bermudian designer David S. Hill is a professionally trained graphic artist, typographer, and illustrator. Based in London and Warsaw, David has over 25 years creative industry experience and specialized in corporate brand design and creative strategies. He has worked for a number of well-known creative agencies, both in London and Bermuda, delivering advertising campaigns for globally recognized blue-chip companies and SME’s.
In December 2005, whilst traveling through Warsaw with partner and photographer Ilona Karwińska, David first discovered the last remaining relics of Poland’s state-sponsored cold war-era neonisation program – something that had been largely forgotten or ignored in the rush to re-establish democracy and re-join the west. From this discovery, they formed the Neon Foundation and worked tirelessly for more than 15 years to document, protect and preserve these culturally significant neon signs – a project that was to become the foundation of the Neon Muzeum, Warsaw.
David is the Co-Founder and Director of Europe’s first and only Neon Muzeum – which is dedicated to the documentation and preservation of Cold War era neon signs. David regularly gives lectures and presentations (London, Vienna, Berlin, Zurich etc.) on the extraordinary subject of Polish mid-20th electro-graphic design and cold war era neonisation. The Neon Muzeum has become an immensely popular destination in Warsaw’s cultural landscape and attracts between 80K-100K visitors annually.
